“I’ve painted different renditions of Australia’s first world champ Midget Farrelly over the years. To me, he was the epitome of surfing. A true gentleman in and out of the water, and one of the greatest surfers to ever grace a wave.

When I lived in Palm Beach I’d occasionally bump into him, out in the water or in the car park at Kiddies Corner, quietly watching the waves. Mind-surfing every one as it rounded the headland and ran into the bay.

On days when giant surf hit Sydney, he’d be the only one out at Palm Beach. Seemingly miles out, waiting for the right one in.

He died a few years ago now, but his contribution to surfing is still present today, especially at his beloved Palmy.” — Mitch
